Measuring and Calculating Material Requirements for Roller Shades
Measuring Checklist
• Always use a wood or metal ruler
• Provide all measurements to the nearest 1/8"
• Include measurements and selected mounting method with your roller shade
order
Accurate measurements will ensure a perfect fit.
Mounting Options
Inside Mounting (IB) shades are hung inside the window casement.
Outside Mounting (OB) shades are appropriate when:
• There is not enough space on the inside of the window for the thickness
of the roller
• Eliminating light streaks on the edges of the windows is desired (making
a shade that is larger than the window also gives the illusion of a wider
window)
For extra wide windows consider a series of shades for a balanced look.
For
Inside Mounting (IB)

• Width is determined by measuring the distance between the frame where
the brackets will be mounted. We will allow for bracket clearance.
• Length is determined by measuring the distance from the top to bottom
length (or preferred point) in three places and specifying the
shortest length.
For Outside Mounting (OB)
 • Width is determined by measuring the distance between the points of the
area to be covered. The measurements you give us will be the exact tip-to-tip
measurement
of the roller.
• Length is determined by measuring the distance from the top to bottom
length (or preferred point) in three places and specifying the shortest
length.
Measuring Length for Roller Shades
Add 12” to the window length, which allows the
shade to be drawn to its desired full length without
being torn from the roller. For
example: The notation for a window length
of 48 ” should be 48” + 12” (not simply 60 ” total).
