About Us

Who are we?
North Caldwell parents, just like you, interested in the long term development of soccer skills for our children.

How do we do that?
By promoting camaraderie, self-esteem, teamwork & fun. Our coaching philosophy is to use structured training, consistent practice & positive reinforcement to develop individual & team skills.

How did we develop our philosophy?
By checking with experts, such as:

· Dr Thomas Turner, Director of Coaching and Player Development for the Ohio Youth Soccer Association
· United States Soccer Federation
· Rick Meana, Director of Coaching for the New Jersey Youth Soccer Assoc
· Jay Martin, profile writer for the Soccer Journal
· US Women’s National Team
· Arsene Wenger, Manager Arsenal FC

What are the facts?
· 2.5 million children quit youth soccer between ages 11 and 12
· 70% of children quit youth soccer by the age of 13

Why?
· Children aren’t being taught skills
· Adults are too critical
· There is too much emphasis placed on winning
· Children get labeled “good” or “bad”

As a result, the kids aren't having fun!
· The creation of “super teams”, for the sole purpose of stacking the deck to win, does not create super players – in fact, many times it produces the opposite result.

· In polls taken of youth soccer players, winning was not listed in the top ten reasons girls played; boys ranked winning as 9th. Fun, excitement of competition and improving skills were all listed above winning.

So what makes USANC different?
· We want our kids to:

o Develop a sense of self-worth
o Develop athletic skills
o Maximize their potential

· We provide regular professional soccer training to all players
· We believe in balanced teams – not “super” teams.
· Most of all, we want our all our kids to have FUN.

What we are not...
All about winning. We “strive to win” by training, commitment, camaraderie and learning to be competitive. But it is not the means to an end.

Please read our complete Position Statement or speak with any of our board members or player parents. You can also ask your child to speak with one of our players for “front line” feed back. Or email us at info@usanc.org.
